Psalm 24

Psalm 24

Of David. A psalm.

¹The earth is the Lord’s,^(A) and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;^(B)
²for he founded it on the seas
and established it on the waters.^(C)

³Who may ascend the mountain^(D) of the Lord?
    Who may stand in his holy place?^(E)
⁴The one who has clean hands^(F) and a pure heart,^(G)
    who does not trust in an idol^(H)
    or swear by a false god.^[a]

⁵They will receive blessing^(I) from the Lord
and vindication^(J) from God their Savior.
⁶Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face,^(K) God of Jacob.^[b]^[c]

⁷Lift up your heads, you gates;^(L)
    be lifted up, you ancient doors,
    that the King^(M) of glory^(N) may come in.^(O)
⁸Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord strong and mighty,^(P)
    the Lord mighty in battle.^(Q)
⁹Lift up your heads, you gates;
    lift them up, you ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
¹⁰Who is he, this King of glory?
    The Lord Almighty^(R)—
    he is the King of glory.

Isaiah 25:6-9

⁶On this mountain^(A) the Lord Almighty will prepare
    a feast^(B) of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine—
    the best of meats and the finest of wines.^(C)
⁷On this mountain he will destroy
    the shroud^(D) that enfolds all peoples,^(E)
the sheet that covers all nations;
⁸    he will swallow up death^(F) forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears^(G)
    from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace^(H)
    from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.^(I)

⁹In that day^(J) they will say,

“Surely this is our God;^(K)
we trusted^(L) in him, and he saved^(M) us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him;
let us rejoice^(N) and be glad in his salvation.”^(O)

Revelation 21:1-6

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”^[a]^(A) for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,^(B) and there was no longer any sea. ²I saw the Holy City,^(C) the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,^(D) prepared as a bride^(E) beautifully dressed for her husband. ³And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.^(F) They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.^(G) ⁴‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.^(H) There will be no more death’^[b]^(I) or mourning or crying or pain,^(J) for the old order of things has passed away.”^(K)

⁵He who was seated on the throne^(L) said, “I am making everything new!”^(M) Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”^(N)

⁶He said to me: “It is done.^(O) I am the Alpha and the Omega,^(P) the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost^(Q) from the spring of the water of life.^(R)

John 11:32-44

New International Version

³²When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”^(A)

³³When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved^(B) in spirit and troubled.^(C) ³⁴“Where have you laid him?” he asked.

“Come and see, Lord,” they replied.

³⁵Jesus wept.^(D)

³⁶Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”^(E)

³⁷But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man^(F) have kept this man from dying?”^(G)

Jesus Raises Lazarus From the Dead

³⁸Jesus, once more deeply moved,^(H) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.^(I) ³⁹“Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”^(J)

⁴⁰Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,^(K) you will see the glory of God?”^(L)

⁴¹So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up^(M) and said, “Father,^(N) I thank you that you have heard me. ⁴²I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,^(O) that they may believe that you sent me.”^(P)

⁴³When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”^(Q) ⁴⁴The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen,^(R) and a cloth around his face.^(S)

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”
